The UK marriage visa allows spouses or civil partners of UK citizens or permanent residents (people who have Indefinite Leave to Remain) to come to the UK under the marriage visa category. As soon as a UK marriage visa is granted you will be able to find work straight away.

In order for you to be eligible for a UK marriage visa you will have to meet certain requirements such as the following:

  • You must be legally married to each other/in a civil Partnership with each other
  • You must have met each other
  • You must intend to live together
  • It is important that you are able to support yourself, or be supported by your partner, without access to public funds. Public funds cover various benefits paid by the Government if you are currently looking for work, if you are on a low income and if you are in various other situations.
  • There must be adequate accommodation in place
  • Children of the marriage who are under 18 years old are allowed entry to the UK as dependants, and can make their application at the same time as you do

If you have been in a marriage or civil partnership for less than four years you will be given a two year visa, which will enable you to come and live in the UK. You will only be able to stay after these two years if your marriage is still in place; if this is the case you will be able to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain within the UK.

If you have been married or in a civil partnership for more than four years outside of the UK may be granted Indefinite Leave to Remain straight away after you have made your application for a UK marriage visa.

If you would like to find out more about applying for a UK marriage visa then contact Immigration Consult today and we will advise you and help you to make your UK marriage visa application.
