In some instances a business will be unable to hire a migrant worker based on a work permit. When occasions such as this arise there are a number of alternative options open to you in order for a migrant to come to the UK for work or training.

One of the main alternative options that are open to migrant workers is the opportunity to come to the UK on a Business Visit Visa; this visa is however limited and you have to conform to strict regulations in order to apply for it. Trips to the UK under a Business Visit Visa can be of any length up to six months. They can be used in any part of the UK where work or training is limited.

The people who can come to the UK under a Business Visit Visa are as follows:

  • Advisors
  • Trainers
  • Consultants

Applications however will not simply just be approved because you are one of the above. In order to apply for a Business Visit Visa as one of the above you need to be employed in your home country either directly or under contract by the same company that the client in the UK belongs to. Also it should be noted that if you are a trainer hoping to come to the UK the training should be for a one off purpose and should not go beyond classroom instruction. One last restriction surrounding training people in the UK is that the training you will be proving must not be readily available within the UK.

As well as the above, representatives of software companies who are employed to install or enhance products etc can also apply for a Business Visit Visa.
