EEA/EU and Swiss Nationals
Related

As an EEA/EU and Swiss national you have a right of residency in the UK, which entitles you to live and work in the UK as long as you have a valid passport and identity card, which you will have to present when using ports and airports within the UK.

In order to gain right of residency in the UK you need to be an EEA/EU or Swiss National but you also need to be either working within the UK or, if you are not working, you need to have enough money to support yourself throughout your time in the UK without the help of public funds, which includes Income Support, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.

If you are an EEA/EU or Swiss National who is working within the UK you are able to undertake whichever type of work you wish; you can take up self employment or employment within a business and you can also set up a business or local branch of a company.

As an EEA/EU or Swiss National you don’t need a work permit but you do need to register as a worker under the Workers Registration Scheme.

This permit is normally valid for five years and is an entitlement under law. An application made by an EEA/EU or Swiss National will normally only be rejected is, for example, the applicant is not working and doesn’t have enough funds to support themselves.

The residence permit is an entitlement under the law. The application will only be rejected if, for example, the applicant is not working and does not have sufficient funds to support themselves.

  • Czech Republic
  • Estonia
  • Hungary
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Poland
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
